Learner-centered classroom

I believe that a learner-centered classroom is much more effective than a teacher-centered classroom for many reasons. First of all, if the classroom is focused on the learners, the learning will ultimately be deeper because the students will be discovering it for themselves. In teacher-centered classrooms, the knowledge that is being given from the teacher might pass right through the student without actually being understood. Next, when the role of the teacher shifts from being primary information giver to coach and facilitator, students will view the teacher as more of an approachable peer. I believe that some students are intimidated by teachers and the apparent "power they posses". This intimidation creates an atmosphere where ideas are not shared between the teacher and student. Overall, the learner-centered classroom provides an environment where students are not afraid to make mistakes or ask questions.
